Mini Skid Steers for Farms & Agriculture

Clean stalls, move bales, and haul feed where the tractor won't fit. Yellow Jacket mini skid steers for farms — Kubota and Yanmar power.

Every farm has the same problem with its tractor: it's too big for the places the work actually is. Barn aisles, low doorways, between-the-pens, inside the greenhouse, alongside the grain bins. The loader tractor handles the field and the yard, and then you're doing everything else with a fork and a wheelbarrow.

A mini skid steer is the machine that gets into those places. It goes down a barn aisle, clears a low doorway, turns in its own footprint, and runs the same category of attachments a much larger machine does.

Yellow Jacket prices them where a working farm can justify one:

The Jobs You'll Actually Use It For

  • Cleaning stalls, pens, and loafing sheds
  • Loading the manure spreader
  • Moving round and square bales into and out of storage
  • Hauling and distributing feed
  • Spreading bedding — sawdust, shavings, straw
  • Moving pallets of feed, minerals, seed, and supplies
  • Scraping and cleaning alleys and concrete pads
  • Clearing snow around buildings, gates, and waterers
  • Grading and maintaining lanes and driveways
  • Digging post holes for fence and gate repair
  • Hauling brush, downed limbs, and general cleanup
  • Loading and unloading trailers
  • Handling firewood
  • Moving equipment and implements around the yard

Where It Beats the Tractor

Not a replacement for the tractor — a complement to it. Three specific advantages:

Height. A mini skid steer's low profile clears doorways and rafters a loader tractor can't get under. If you've ever backed a tractor out of a barn because the loader arms wouldn't clear, you know the cost of that.

Turning. Tracked machines counter-rotate in place. Down a barn aisle, in a pen, or between buildings, that's the difference between doing the job and repositioning six times.

Footprint. Lower ground pressure means you can work on soft pasture, in a wet lot, or across the lawn between the house and the barn without leaving ruts you'll be filling in all spring.

Which Yellow Jacket Fits a Farm

YJ1000 — the general-purpose farm machine
25 hp Kubota D1105 diesel. Diesel torque for loaded buckets and bale work, and enough capacity for most livestock and mixed-operation chores. This is the one most farms end up with.

YJ2000 — for bigger operations
50 hp Yanmar diesel. If you're running heavy attachments, doing significant clearing or dirt work, or the machine is a primary rather than secondary unit, the additional capacity pays.

Attachments That Earn Their Keep on a Farm

Bucket — manure, bedding, feed, gravel, dirt. Comes standard and does most of the work.
Bale spear — round and square bales. Sizing depends on bale weight, so check capacity against what you actually bale.
Pallet forks — feed, seed, minerals, supplies, equipment.
Grapple bucket — manure with bedding mixed in, brush, awkward loads the bucket won't retain.
Angle broom — cleaning alleys, pads, and equipment areas.
Snow blade or V-plow — keeping access to buildings, gates, and waterers open through winter.
Auger — fence and gate post repair.
Bucket-mounted grapple or root rake — brush and cleanup work.

Yellow Jacket ships an industry-standard universal quick-attach plate as standard equipment, so attachments from other brands — including ones already on the farm — bolt on.

What It Replaces

Fork-and-wheelbarrow hours. Stall cleaning is the clearest example. What's a multi-hour chore by hand becomes a short one with a bucket, every single day, for the life of the machine. Daily chores are where equipment pays for itself, because the savings compound.

Hired help you can't find. Farm labor is scarce and getting scarcer. A machine covers work you'd otherwise be hiring for or doing yourself after dark.

A second tractor. Farms that add a mini often find they've been considering a second loader tractor for jobs the mini does better and for a third of the money.

Custom hauling and clearing. Fence line clearing, lane grading, brush work — jobs you might otherwise hire out.

Your back. Not a line item, but the honest reason a lot of these machines get bought.

Why Farms Choose Yellow Jacket

Engines you can get parts for in a farm town. Kubota diesel and Yanmar diesel — the most common small engine platforms in agriculture. Parts at any Kubota dealer, tractor supply, or engine shop. No proprietary components you can only get from one distributor.

Parts stocked in Ohio and shipped same-day. Chores don't wait for a dealer order.

Universal quick-attach standard. Whatever's already in the shop fits.

Priced like a working machine. You're buying capability, not paint. That's the difference between adding a machine this year and getting by another season without one.

Farm & Agriculture FAQ

Will it fit through my barn door?

The most important question on this page, and it depends on the specific model. Measure your lowest doorway and your narrowest aisle, then call us — we'll tell you exactly which models clear and which don't.

Can it handle round bales?

With a bale spear, yes — but capacity depends on bale weight, which varies enormously with size, crop, and moisture. A wet 5x6 round bale is a very different load than a dry 4x4. Tell us what you actually bale and we'll tell you which model handles it, honestly.

Mini skid steer or compact tractor with a loader?

Different tools. A compact tractor is better for field work, PTO implements, mowing, and road travel. A mini skid steer is better in buildings, in tight spaces, on soft ground, and for attachment-driven work. Most farms that own both use them for completely different jobs and wouldn't give up either. If you already have a tractor, the mini fills the gaps it can't reach — which is usually where the daily chores are.

Gas or diesel for farm use?

The YJ1000 suits lighter-duty use. The commercial YJ1100, YJ1200, YJ2000, and YJ3000 are better for daily heavy work and higher-demand attachments.

Will it work in a manure pack or wet lot?

Tracks handle soft, wet footing far better than wheels. Deep manure pack is hard on any machine and you'll want to clean the undercarriage regularly, but this is the machine type best suited to that condition.

Can I run it in a poultry house or greenhouse?

Ventilation is the concern with any internal combustion engine in an enclosed building. Follow the operating manual and make sure the space is properly ventilated. Many operations use these machines in barns and houses routinely, with attention to air exchange.

How do I get it home?

Machines ship nationwide from Ohio, and they transport on a standard tandem-axle trailer behind a 3/4-ton.
