Mini Skid Steers for Landscaping

Haul mulch, move sod, and grade beds without wrecking the lawn. Yellow Jacket mini skid steers for landscape contractors — Kubota and Yanmar power.

Twelve yards of mulch, a backyard you can only reach through a 42-inch gate, and three guys with wheelbarrows. That's a full day. With a mini skid steer it's a morning, and you're on the next job by noon.

That's the whole economic case. Landscape work is material handling — mulch, topsoil, gravel, sod, plants, block, debris — and every yard of it moved by hand is labor you're paying for and time you're not billing. A mini skid steer moves it on tracks that fit through the gate and float over turf instead of rutting it.

Yellow Jacket builds that machine on Kubota and Yanmar power and prices it where a one-crew operation can actually buy it:

The Jobs You'll Actually Use It For

  • Hauling mulch, topsoil, and compost from the driveway pile to the beds
  • Moving pallets of sod and setting them where the crew is laying
  • Spreading and grading topsoil before seed or sod
  • Digging planting holes and tree pits with an auger
  • Pulling out old shrubs, root balls, and overgrown foundation plantings
  • Moving boulders and landscape rock into place
  • Hauling brush, sod scraps, and demo debris out to the trailer
  • Backfilling and grading around new plantings and walls
  • Breaking up compacted soil in beds before amending
  • Loading and unloading material at the yard
  • Final grade and cleanup so you're not raking by hand

Which Yellow Jacket Fits a Landscape Crew

YJ1000 — the everyday workhorse
25 hp Kubota D1105 diesel, rubber tracks. Diesel torque means it doesn't bog when the bucket's full and the yard slopes uphill. If you're running one machine on one crew all day, every day, this is the one.

Attachments That Earn Their Keep in Landscaping

Bucket — the default. Mulch, soil, gravel, debris. Comes with the machine.
Pallet forks — sod, plants, block, bagged material. The attachment most landscapers buy second and wish they'd bought first.
Auger — planting holes and tree pits. Multiple bit diameters for everything from perennials to balled trees.
Soil conditioner / harley rake — final grade, seedbed prep, breaking up compaction. Turns a two-hour rake job into fifteen minutes.
Root grapple — brush, shrub removal, debris cleanup, anything awkward the bucket won't hold.
Leveler — driveway and walkway grading, spreading gravel evenly.

Every Yellow Jacket runs an industry-standard universal quick-attach plate, so attachments you already own from other brands bolt straight on — and ours run on your other machines.

What It Replaces

The math that matters isn't the purchase price, it's what the machine does to your labor line.

Wheelbarrow labor. A crew moving mulch by hand does maybe a third of what one operator does with a bucket. Put a machine on the crew and either you finish earlier or you send a man to another job. Both show up in the same place on your P&L.

Rental. Rental day rates vary by market, but twenty days a season adds up — and you own nothing at the end of it. A YJ1000 costs about two seasons of that spend, and then it's yours.

Hiring. Labor is the hardest thing in this trade to find and keep. A machine doesn't call out, doesn't quit in August, and doesn't need to be trained every spring.

Callbacks. Rubber tracks spread the machine's weight across a much wider footprint than tires. Fewer ruts means fewer repairs you're eating on your own dime, and a lawn that still looks like a lawn when you leave.

Why Landscape Contractors Choose Yellow Jacket

Engines you can get serviced anywhere. Kubota diesel and Yanmar diesel — parts on the shelf at any small engine shop, Kubota dealer, or parts counter in the country. No proprietary components, no single-source waiting.

Parts stocked in Ohio. Tracks, filters, hoses, and wear parts ship same-day. A machine down in May is the most expensive thing you own.

Universal quick-attach standard. Not an upgrade, not an option. Your attachments work.

Priced so one crew can buy one. You're not financing a brand premium. That's the difference between adding a machine this season and putting it off another year.

Landscaping FAQ

Will it fit through a residential gate?

That's the question that decides most of these purchases, so measure your narrowest regular gate first and call us — we'll tell you straight which models clear it and which don't. Standard residential gates vary a lot, and we'd rather tell you the honest answer up front than sell you a machine that lives on the trailer.

Will it damage the customer's lawn?

Far less than tires. Rubber tracks distribute weight over a much larger contact area, which means low ground pressure and minimal marking on normal turf. On saturated ground, plywood or track mats are still smart practice — but you'll do a fraction of the damage a wheeled machine or a full-size loader would.

Can one machine cover multiple crews?

Plenty of operations run it that way, trailering it to whichever crew has the heaviest material day. If both crews need it at once, that's usually the signal it's time for a second machine — and at these prices, that's a realistic conversation.

Which model?

The YJ1000 is the entry point for lighter-duty work. For crews running all day or using higher-demand attachments, the commercial YJ1100, YJ1200, YJ2000, and YJ3000 provide additional capability.

What attachments should I buy first?

Bucket comes with it. Buy forks next — sod, plants, and pallets cover most of what you handle. Then an auger if you do much planting, or a soil conditioner if you do much grading and seeding.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. See financing options → Most landscape contractors find the monthly payment lands below what they were spending on rentals in the same period.

How fast can I get one?

Machines are in stock and ship nationwide from Ohio. No dealer order queue, no waiting until next season.
