Mini Skid Steers for Tree Care

Move logs, grind stumps, and clear storm debris without tearing up the yard. Yellow Jacket mini skid steers for tree services — Kubota diesel.

Every removal has the same bottleneck. The tree is down, the wood is on the ground, and it all has to get to the truck. Everything before that is skill. Everything after it is labor.

That's where a mini skid steer changes the economics of a tree business. It picks up log sections three men couldn't roll, hauls them to the chip truck on rubber tracks instead of across the customer's lawn, and it does it without the drag line that's eating your production hours.

Yellow Jacket builds that machine on 25 hp Kubota diesel power.

The Jobs You'll Actually Use It For

  • Hauling log sections from the drop zone to the chip truck
  • Loading rounds and brush over the wall of a dump trailer
  • Pulling brush to the chipper without dragging it across the turf
  • Grinding stumps in backyards a towable grinder can't reach
  • Clearing storm debris on soft, saturated ground
  • Moving the chipper or trailer around a tight site
  • Backfilling and grading the stump hole before you leave
  • Handling firewood at the yard between jobs
  • Setting root balls on transplant and planting work
  • Pulling sections up a slope or out of a ravine with a winch
  • Loading and unloading gear at the shop

What It Does to Your Crew Structure

The drag line is the least skilled and most expensive part of a removal. It's where the hours go, where the injuries happen, and where a three-man crew turns into a two-man crew plus one guy walking brush.

Put a machine on the job and that person moves to production — running a saw, feeding the chipper, working the ropes. Same headcount, more billable output. Crews that add a machine commonly find they can fit another job into the week without hiring, which is the version of growth that doesn't require finding a climber in this labor market.

The second effect is subtler and shows up in your callback rate. Residential removals are won and lost on what the yard looks like when you pull out. Rubber tracks spread the machine's weight across a far larger contact area than tires, so you're leaving marks instead of ruts.

Which Yellow Jacket Fits a Tree Crew

YJ1000 — the residential removal machine
25 hp Kubota D1105 diesel, rubber tracks. If most of your work is backyard takedowns, this is the one. Diesel torque runs a grapple all day and the track footprint keeps you off the complaint list.

YJ2000 — storm work and lot clearing
50 hp Yanmar diesel. When the job is lot clearing, heavy mulching, or multi-day storm response, this is the machine with the hydraulic capacity to run a mulching head without starving it.

Attachments That Earn Their Keep in Tree Care

Root grapple — the one you'll use every day. Brush, logs, rounds, debris.
Grapple bucket — better on mixed debris and dirt. More versatile if you're only buying one.
Stump grinder — reach backyard stumps a towable can't get to, and stop subbing it out. Check the attachment's minimum hydraulic flow against the machine you're specifying.
Winch — pull sections up a slope or out of a ravine instead of walking them.
Pallet forks — chipper moves, material handling, loading the trailer.
Bucket — backfill the stump hole and finish grade before you leave. Comes standard.

Every Yellow Jacket ships with an industry-standard universal quick-attach plate as standard equipment, so grapples and grinders you already own from other brands bolt right on.

What It Replaces

A body on the drag line. The clearest line item. That labor cost either comes off the crew or moves to production.

Subbed-out stump grinding. Every stump you send out to a grinding sub is margin leaving the company. Own the attachment and the revenue stays in house — and you stop scheduling around someone else's calendar.

Rental. Mini skid rentals carry a day rate plus attachment charges. Twenty days a season adds up, with nothing owned at the end.

Lawn repair you're eating. Ruts you fix on your own dime, and the referral you don't get.

Why Tree Services Choose Yellow Jacket

Kubota diesel you can service anywhere. D1105 parts are stocked at Kubota dealers and engine shops nationwide. No proprietary components on a single-source channel.

Parts stocked in Ohio, shipped same-day. A machine down during storm season is the most expensive thing you own.

Universal quick-attach standard, not an option. Your grapple fits.

Priced to earn from the first season. You're buying a tool, not a logo.

Tree Care FAQ

Will it damage the customer's lawn?

Substantially less than tires. Rubber tracks distribute the machine's weight over a much larger contact area, which means low ground pressure and minimal marking on normal turf. On saturated ground, plywood or track mats are still the right call — but you'll do a fraction of the damage a wheeled machine or a full-size loader would.

Will it fit through a backyard gate?

This is the question that decides most tree service equipment purchases, so measure your narrowest regular gate and call us. We'll give you the straight answer on which models clear it rather than a number that sounds good on a website.

How big of a log section can it pick up?

That's a function of rated operating capacity and the grapple you're running. The YJ1000 handles typical residential removal sections; step up to the YJ1000 or YJ2000 for large hardwood rounds. Tell us what species and diameter you're regularly cutting and we'll spec it honestly.

Can it run a stump grinder?

The diesel models have the hydraulic flow for mini skid stump grinders. The number that matters is the attachment's minimum flow requirement versus the machine's auxiliary output — match those and it works well; ignore them and the head stalls in the cut. We'll check that math with you before you buy.

Do I need a CDL or a special trailer?

No CDL for the machine. Trailer requirements depend on operating weight plus attachments — most of the lineup transports on a standard tandem-axle trailer behind a 3/4-ton. Check the model spec sheet for exact weights against your tow rating.

What about storm work?

Storm response is where these machines earn their keep hardest — saturated ground, blocked access, and volume debris are exactly the conditions where tracks and a grapple beat a truck and a crew with saws. Keep spare filters and hoses on the truck; storm work is hard on equipment and parts lead time is what costs you days.

How fast can I get one?

Machines are in stock and ship nationwide from Ohio. No dealer order queue.
